While water quality is dependent on many factors, such as infrastructure, weather, and large companies - you can still play a role in preserving water quality in your area.

Sophie Colley is the project coordinator for Litter Free Dorset and she told me about the small things you can do.

So there are small things you can do that have potentially massive benefits for water quality and the environment.

These are the three main take-aways from my conversation with Sophie:

  • Pick up your dog poo

  • Make sure to put all food in the bin, or take it home if the bins are full

  • Put all your cigarette buts in the bin or use a portable ashtray when smoking on the beach

  • Don't flush anything down the loo that isn't paper, poo or pee.
